Introduction to the e-change Training site

“This tale grew in the telling …”
(Preface to “Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkien)

This website began with the intent to write a book.

Between 1997 and 2003, Andrew Davies and I were co-Directors of the Cranfield School of Management’s Managing Information systems Projects (MISP) executive programme. At the same time we were working actively the Cranfield Information Systems Research Centre (ISRC) on the “benefits from IT-enabled change’ research workstream.

Not finding a book in existence that presented our MISP programme material in a way we wanted and, thinking our research reports too academic for our delegates, we began top produce a set of MISP programme handouts, which we eventually decided were sufficiently distinctive to be worthy of consideration as a book.

Unfortunately, the core material of the book refused to stand still!

The normative part of the material stabilised quite early on but our understanding the ‘why’ questions kept growing as we gained deeper insights into the explanations of how, why and when to apply our e-change framework and benefits assurance approach. Each new application produced deeper understandings, a phenomenon that continued long after we had left Cranfield to set up e-change Training Limited.

I eventually decided that a more flexible and dynamic technology was need to present our work and began to develop this website. Even so, this new version is the third generation! And the intent to produce a book has not gone away entirely.
